The Visible Storage
The collection housed in the MAS | Museum aan de Stroom totals some 470,000 objects.
Antwerp-based architectural design bureau B-architecten was commissioned to design the displays for the galleries. First they came up with a master plan and then they drew up the designs for each floor.
B-Architecten drew inspiration from the cinema and theatre. They wanted to do more than just provide visitors with information; they wanted visitors to experience the exhibition. A contemporary exhibition should be an experience, and putting one together is not unlike creating a theatre production. A visit to the MAS stimulates all the senses. Visitors are approached visually, auditively and tactilely as well as through the content.
- Eric Sleichim from Bl!ndman was asked to compose special music for each themed exhibition. The music supports the exhibition story, just as music supports the story in a film.
- Studio Tom Hautekiet worked alongside B-architecten on the graphic aspects of each themed exhibition. Rather than just providing visitors with information, a visit to an exhibition should be a total experience.
