The MAS is happy to host the conference 'Food, People and the City. Comparative Perspectives', which is strongly linked to the theme of the MAS exhibition 'Antwerp a la carte'. The conference aims to increase our awareness of food systems as dynamic cultural phenomena.

Practical information

At this time, we are still doing everything we can to prevent the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19 and to protect risk groups in Belgium. Bringing a group of international speakers together might still be impossible in September 2021, the scheduled date. We have been looking at the option of a  a fully virtual conference or a hybrid live/virtual conference in 2021, but we have come to the conclusion that a live conference in September 2022 fits best the goals of the SIEF network and the MAS.

Even in 2022 we probably will invest in some virtual sessions, but we all hope that in 2022 the corona crisis will be over and that most of the speakers will be able to travel again and to enjoy the live conference in Antwerp.

The conference is a collaboration between CSG Centre for Urban Studies, University of Antwerp, FOST Social & Cultural Food Studies, Free University Brussels, ICAG Interfaculty Centre for Agrarian History, KU Leuven and SIEF Food Research Working Group
